Come and hear two of our translators, Robert Chandler and Anne Marie Jackson, discuss the life and work of Teffi at Pushkin House. Teffi was a star author in early twentieth-century Russia, beloved of emperors and revolutionaries alike. Forced to flee after the Revolution, she settled in Paris where she was an important figure in the émigré literary scene. Largely forgotten after her death, Teffi’s work has recently been rediscovered – and we’re publishing Subtly Worded, the first ever collection of her short stories in English, on 19 June. Robert Chandler and Anne Marie Jackson have helped make Teffi available to English readers for the first time, and at this event they will be your guides to the extraordinary life and fascinating writing of this unique writer.
